Posted: Dec, 2021
Kentucky’s Centre College, which hosted the Vice-Presidential debates of 2000 (Dick Cheney vs. Joe Lieberman) and 2012 (Joe Biden vs. Paul Ryan), has become the 24th institution affiliated with Colleges That Change Lives to participate in the SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards program.
Founded in 1819, Centre has produced 70% of Kentucky’s Rhodes Scholars over the past 50 years. The “Centre Commitment” guarantees the 1,400 undergraduates a choice of extensive study-abroad options; internship and/or research opportunities; and the promise of graduation in four years. Centre has been ranked #1 nationally for the percentage of undergraduates who study abroad.
Economics, international studies, psychology and mathematics are among the most popular majors. Professors who love to teach are attracted to the small classes and the culture of supporting students.
Centre recently began construction of a $50 million, 135,000-square-foot facility devoted to wellness and athletic excellence. The facility will include a 10-lane, 50-meter pool with seating for 700; a six-lane, 200-meter indoor track and turf infield with seating for 800; a 6,000-square-foot strength and wellness center; and, an educational nutrition center. The expansion will add 70 more athletes to Centre‘s 24 NCAA Division III athletic squads.
Centre is listed in “The Best 387 Colleges” by The Princeton Review. Centre is the 41st Presbyterian-affiliated college and 7th Kentucky private colleges to participate in Tuition Rewards.
