Bethel College, where the study of peace, justice and conflict management is a part of every student's experience, has become the 11th Kansas private college to join the SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards program.
The nation's oldest Mennonite-affiliated college, Bethel (founded 1887) created a major in "Peace Studies" in 1972 and launched the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution in 1985. Committed to truth, justice and racial healing, the College draws nearly 500 students from 28 states and 16 countries to a Kansas campus in North Newton, a 25-minute drive from Wichita. A 10:1 student-faculty ratio ensures small classes. Nursing, business and biology are among the most popular majors.
65% of students tend to be athletes, drawn to 16 varsity teams that compete in the NAIA Division II Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Bethel is known for its award-winning instrumental and choral music groups and for the proportion of graduates who earn medical or Ph.D. degrees. The
College's commitment to community service and social justice has earned it a Top 20 national ranking from the Washington Monthly.
Bethel is ranked among the top 10% of U.S. colleges for the generosity of financial aid. A loan repayment assistance program (LRAP) provides a safety net for graduates who are working and earn less than $45,000 per year. Bethel is the 4th Mennonite-affiliated college to participate in Tuition Rewards, joining Eastern Mennonite (VA), Goshen (IN) and Tabor (KS).
