One of 12 U.S. colleges chosen as a model for the first-year undergraduate experience, West Virginia’s University of Charleston is an innovator. UC is nationally recognized for its outcomes-based “Learning Your Way” curriculum, which embeds Critical Thinking, Communication, Citizenship, Creativity and Innovation, Ethical Practice and Inquiry into courses in each major. This unique curriculum provides an opportunity for students to graduate in only 3 years and either enter graduate school sooner or start their career early.

One of the fastest-growing private colleges in America, UC has experienced record enrollment growth for six consecutive years and attracts students from 45 countries. The campus is located on the banks of the Kanawha River, with a panoramic view of the state Capitol building as a dramatic backdrop. Seven of the 11 campus buildings have been constructed since 1998. The newest building project is a $16 million Russell & Martha Wehrle Innovation Center and Sports Arena, set to open this spring.

Founded in 1888, UC has three locations in West Virginia and offers nearly 40 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. A 14:1 student/faculty ratio enables 65% of classes to feature fewer than 20 students. Biology, business, education, nursing and pre-med / pre-pharmacy are the most popular majors.

The University offers 20 NCAA Division 2 sports competing in the Mountain East Conference. 35% of UC undergraduates participate on a varsity team.
