St. Francis College Joins SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards

By SAGE Scholars — February 7, 2022

St. Francis College, which is moving in September to a new downtown Brooklyn campus that will accommodate an expected jump in enrollment to 3,500 students by 2026, has become the 15th Franciscan-affiliated Catholic college to join the SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards program.

According to its President, Dr. Miguel Martinez-Saenz: “For more than 160 years, St. Francis College has demonstrated a commitment to providing an unmatched private education in the heart of New York City. This is a historic moment to completely re-envision our campus and meet the needs of our community. We are thrilled to continue offering a first-rate, affordable education in a modern, flexible and welcoming learning space.”

Home to 2,300 students four years ago and 2,700 now, SFC provides an affordable, quality education to students of all backgrounds, including a 10% international population from 75+ countries, including Albania, Jamaica, Serbia, Spain, and Trinidad & Tobago. With the move, the College will introduce a new slate of academic programs in disciplines that springboard students into jobs in growing career fields.

The new campus will occupy about 255,000 square feet across the fifth, sixth and seventh floors at 181 Livingston Street. It includes an outdoor terrace and roof deck with views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan and New York Harbor.

SFC’s average class size is 18. In addition to 72 majors and minors, the College offers 21 NCAA Division 1 athletic teams plus 40 student clubs, honor societies, fraternities and sororities. A total of 98 Catholic colleges and universities now participate in Tuition Rewards.

The College welcomes students from around the city, country & globe, including recent high school graduates and students with non-traditional educational paths, including those with military service & returning to college later in life.

St. Francis College has a long tradition of nurturing both athletes & scholars. The Terriers compete in 21 NCAA Division I athletic teams. The men’s soccer team has won multiple Northeast Conference Championships. The men’s golf team was recently recognized as earning the highest average GPA of all its NCAA Division I counterparts.

Calling upon its rich Franciscan heritage, St. Francis College is committed to values of hospitality & inclusion. The student body reflects every religious tradition. Its cultural & ethnic diversity reflects NYC’s diversity. The College’s generous need-based & merit-based scholarships remove financial barriers for many students, including those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

Currently, over 100+ scholarships are available to students. Over $21 million in aid is awarded each year — which makes this private college just as affordable as most public colleges (depending on the student’s specific financial need & academic record). SFC provides a learning environment where everyone belongs, so that all students can dream, serve, & achieve.
