From Dominican University of California

Dominican University of California, an independent university of Catholic heritage located 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, enjoys a century-long reputation for excellence in scholarship, research and community outreach.

One of California's oldest colleges, founded in 1890 by the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, Dominican successfully blends the personal direction associated with smaller schools with the academic resources of a larger university. With more than 2,200 graduate and undergraduate students and a student to faculty ratio of 11:1, Dominican provides a challenging academic environment with a focus on interdisciplinary studies.

In the sciences, the University excels at involving undergraduates in sophisticated research projects that enable students to present at national academic conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals. In the humanities, students can combine dance and musical performance with the study of philosophy, literature, world cultures and religion. Dominican is only one of two colleges in the nation to offer a BFA in dance. Dominican also offers strong programs in business, counseling psychology, education, nursing and occupational therapy.

Neighborhood

Dominican University of California's San Rafael campus sits in a residential neighborhood with easy access to downtown San Rafael's shops, restaurants, and cultural venues just a short walk or drive away. The tree-lined streets surrounding the 50 Acacia Avenue location offer a peaceful, collegiate atmosphere while remaining close to the North Bay's outdoor recreation, including nearby parks and hiking trails. Students enjoy the balance of a quiet study environment with convenient access to local cafes, retail shops, and entertainment options that make student life both comfortable and engaging.
