From Alliant University

Alliant International University is a private, nonprofit institution headquartered in San Diego, California, with additional campuses in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Phoenix, and an extensive online presence. Established in 2001 through the merger of the California School of Professional Psychology (founded in 1969) and the United States International University (founded in 1924), Alliant carries forward a legacy of innovation in higher education. With its blue and gold colors and commitment to a global outlook, Alliant welcomes students from around the world into a collaborative learning community that values diversity, social justice, and ethical leadership.

Academically, Alliant International University offers a broad array of graduate and professional programs across six colleges: the California School of Professional Psychology, the California School of Management & Leadership, the School of Education, the San Diego Law School, the California School of Forensic Studies, and the School of Health Sciences. Students pursue degrees in Psychology, Counseling, Education, Business, Law, Forensic Studies, and Health Sciences, among other fields. Class sizes remain small—often under 20 students—to ensure personalized instruction and close mentorship. Hands-on training is embedded in each program, whether through practicum placements in mental health agencies, internships in corporate or nonprofit settings, or legal clinics that serve underserved communities.

Career preparation is integral to the Alliant experience. The university’s robust career services office connects students with internships, externships, and networking opportunities tailored to their field of study. Graduates in Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Counseling frequently find licensure-track positions upon graduation, while business and management alumni leverage Alliant’s industry partnerships to secure roles in marketing, finance, and organizational leadership. Law students benefit from experiential learning in the San Diego Law School’s on-campus legal clinic, gaining practical skills in advocacy and client representation. Across all programs, Alliant’s emphasis on evidence-based practice, cultural competence, and ethical decision making ensures that graduates are prepared to excel in diverse professional environments.

Although Alliant does not feature a traditional campus life with varsity athletics, students engage in a vibrant array of professional organizations, student-run associations, and community service initiatives. Clubs such as the Psychology Student Association, Business and Leadership Society, and Pre-Law Society offer regular workshops, guest speakers, and networking events. Online students participate in virtual discussion groups, collaborative projects, and webinars that foster connection across campuses. Alliant also hosts annual conferences—such as the International Conference on Responsibility in Mental Health and Higher Education—drawing scholars, clinicians, and community leaders together to share research and best practices. With its emphasis on practical experience and global engagement, Alliant International University empowers students to become ethical professionals and change agents in their chosen fields.

Neighborhood

Located in the North County San Diego area, Alliant International University's Pomerado Road campus sits in a suburban setting with convenient access to shopping centers, restaurants, and services along nearby commercial corridors. The area is car-dependent, so students will benefit from having transportation, though the campus proximity to major roads provides easy access to San Diego's broader entertainment and cultural offerings.
