California Lutheran University Joins SAGE Scholars College Consortium

By SAGE Scholars — June 24, 2026

SAGE Scholars is delighted to announce that California Lutheran University (Cal Lutheran) has joined the SAGE Scholars College Consortium. A private liberal arts university with deep roots in faith-based education and a forward-looking commitment to student success, Cal Lutheran brings a rich and diverse academic experience to families enrolled in the Tuition Rewards program.

Founded in 1959 and located in Thousand Oaks, California, Cal Lutheran is a private, nonprofit university affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Situated between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara on a 225-acre suburban campus, the university enrolls more than 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students from 40 states and 67 countries. Cal Lutheran offers 45 undergraduate majors and 48 minors through its College of Arts and Sciences, School of Management, Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Psychology, School for Professional and Continuing Studies, and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary. Graduate programs span business, economics, education, psychology, information technology, public policy, divinity, and beyond. With an average class size of 14 students and 88% of full-time faculty holding a doctorate or terminal degree, Cal Lutheran pairs the academic breadth of a comprehensive university with the close-knit environment of a liberal arts college.

What distinguishes Cal Lutheran is the combination of outcomes, community, and purpose that defines the student experience. Ninety-four percent of graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school within a year of completing their degree. The university has been designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education, reflecting a student body in which more than 40% of undergraduates identify as Hispanic or Latino, as well as an institutional commitment to access and belonging that runs throughout every aspect of campus life. Cal Lutheran is also home to the Center for Economic Research and Forecasting (CERF), a nationally recognized economic forecasting center whose economists participate in the Wall Street Journal Economic Forecasting Survey and have earned multiple Crystal Ball Awards for forecast accuracy, connecting students in the School of Management to real-world applied research and policy work.

In the 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings, Cal Lutheran is ranked No. 16 among Regional Universities West and No. 10 among Best Value Schools. Its mission to educate leaders for a global society who are strong in character and judgment, confident in their identity and vocation, and committed to service and justice has guided the university for more than six decades.

SAGE Scholars is proud to welcome California Lutheran University to its consortium and looks forward to connecting Tuition Rewards families with this remarkable institution. For more information about Cal Lutheran, visit their profile below.
